I’ve always owned dozens of CDs of my favourite music. Pennywise, Rise Against, Propagandhi, Goverment Issue, Anti-Flag, Ignite, Flogging Molly, CKY, Sick Of It All… quite a few of them have been sitting on my shelves for years.
I used to make my own mixes, burn CDs, put them in the car, take them with me. I physically owned the music I listened to. Probably just like everyone else not-long-ago.
Today is September 11, 2026.
Twenty-five years.
I still remember the tenth anniversary. I remember thinking how long ago it seemed, but at the same time how strangely fresh everything still felt.
The same happened twenty years after.
And now it’s twenty-five.
I don’t think it really matters whether it’s two years, twenty years or twenty-five. Some things just stay fresh.
I was thirteen years old on September 11, 2001.
I’ve been writing technical documentation for Prusa Research for almost ten years now.
It probably shows.
After years of writing things that are supposed to explain how something works, what to do, what not to do, and what might go wrong, I’ve developed a habit of explaining everything.
Even when nobody asked.
Sometimes I think it’s just alibism. If I explain every little detail, nobody can later say I didn’t explain it haha.
I’m usually pretty careful about telemetry.
Whenever I install some piece of software, one of the first things I look at is what it wants to send somewhere.
With Firefox, I actually leave some of it enabled.
One of those things is the Daily Usage Ping.
Once a day, Firefox sends Mozilla an anonymous signal that Firefox was used that day. It doesn’t send my browsing history, passwords or the websites I’ve visited. It’s basically just a way for Mozilla to know that there was a Firefox user on the other end that day.
I was cleaning up my workshop recently.
There was the usual mess of things I’ve accumulated over time, like pieces of wood, bits of metal, POM, various motor parts and materials that I keep because I might need them someday… you know.
Somewhere in the middle of all that I found an old Dell Latitude E6400, year ca 2009-ish.
I had completely forgotten about it.
It had been sitting there for years. Through summer, winter, humidity, probably everything else you can imagine. I also found the original charger next to it, which was a bit of a surprise.
They’re still playing in my Winamp. There are probably hundreds of songs I could put on this list.
These are not necessarily my favourite songs. They are songs I discovered at some point in my life, really liked, and somehow never stopped listening to.
Some of them remind me of a specific time.
I just still like them.
