Hot day, so I was just riding around on my driveway when, after a few minutes, a bunch of kids from the street started showing up.
Five of them, I think.
Skateboards, scooters and minibike… cool!
They started asking me how long I’ve been skating, what tricks I could do and, more importantly, if I could teach them some.
So I did.
We started with the basics. Ollies, pop shuvits and a few other things. Then I showed them some older tricks I still remember, including a Casper flip, Primo, One-foot nose manual and so..
Firefox 157 arrived a few days ago, and with it came Nova.
I actually tried Nova quite a while ago, when it was still being tested in Firefox Nightly. I was curious. Maybe I would get used to it. Maybe there would be something in it that I would end up liking.
The first thing I noticed was the amount of empty space. Mozilla calls it Compact Mode, but honestly, when I compare it with the Firefox interfaces I remember from before, it doesn’t feel particularly compact to me.
I have a friend who has a smart home, smart phone, smart car, smart everything.
His washing machine tells him when it’s finished. His blinds close automatically and send him notifications. He gets alerts when the temperature in his kitchen drops. There’s a voice assistant in every room, a smart TV, a smartwatch and probably a few other things I don’t even know about.
I haven’t written anything here for a while, mostly because I have too many things in my head at the same time.
I’ve been drawing again. Another slightly creepy picture, because apparently that’s what my brain wants to make lately.
Today is the first day of autumn. I really like this time of year. The air changes, the evenings get darker and somehow everything feels a little quieter. I’ve been listening to Propagandhi quite a lot lately, which probably fits the mood.
I’m used to writing in Markdown, so that’s what I use here too.
I usually write things down in my notes… read everywhere. Sometimes I collect little bits and pieces throughout the whole week. A sentence here, an idea there, something I noticed or remembered. And then sometimes I just sit on the porch and write the whole thing in two minutes.
I’ve been looking at it in Nightly and honestly, I’m not sure what to think about it yet.
The whole thing feels a bit too floating to me. Tabs, panels… everything seems to have more space around it and feels like it’s sitting in its own little bubble.
That’s just the design, though. I can probably get used to that.
What worries me more is where Firefox is going in general.
