SeaMonkey, IRC and the Internet I miss

Lately I’ve been spending more time browsing Neocities and personal websites (tottaly love it), and somehow I ended up rediscovering SeaMonkey.

I really like this browser.

It is incredibly simple and fast, and when I’m browsing Neocities it somehow makes the whole experience feel different. I open a website and that’s it. I’m just looking at someone’s website. There is nothing between me and the page.

It reminds me of browsing the web in the late 90s and early 2000s, when a browser was just a browser and the internet still felt like a collection of places made by people.

Anyone who remembers Netscape probably knows what I mean.

What surprised me even more was discovering that SeaMonkey still has an IRC client. I hadn’t used IRC in years, so I decided to give it another try.

I joined a few channels and just started lurking. I wasn’t really expecting much, but there was something strangely nice about sitting in an IRC channel and watching an actual conversation happen.

I’m still figuring out where to go and which channels are worth following, but it feels like I’ve opened another little door into the internet I remember.

Maybe I’ll write about some of the channels I found in another post.

The funny thing is that the more time I spend exploring things like Neocities, personal websites, RSS and IRC, the more I realize that the kind of internet I’ve been missing is still here.

You just have to look for it.
